Breeding Policies, Practices, & Philosophy
THE BOTTOM LINE:
Every Responsible Breeder* over time develops their Breeding
Philosophy/Policies/Practices. And over time their
policies/practices will or may change as the Breeder endlessly
reassesses what they do and how they can make the future of the Alaskan
Klee Kai breed first and foremost in their mind and heart via their
policies, and practices. The only thing that REALLY
matters to the Responsible Breeder is the future of the Alaskan Klee Kai individually
and collectively as they produce, contribute and work to define the future of the AKK Breed.
* Widdershin Estates'
Breeder Philosophy has
remained unchanged Carol's entry into the AKK Breeder Community.
Carol devotion to every breed she's been involved with since 1972 has
always been towards the well-being and future of the breed.

Widdershin
Estates Breeding Policy/Practice/Philosophy(effective
2010):
Philosophy (Effective
2001):
 |
Widdershin
Estates (Carol and Frank) through our breeding program cause
Alaskan Klee Kai pups to be born. WE totally accept
our lifelong responsibility to all the Adorable AKK born at
Widdershin Estates. |
 |
Widdershin
Estates (Carol and Frank) is/are a true hobby breeder. WE
do not breed to produce pups for either the breeder or the
companion market. WE only breed for our own breeding
program. |
 |
Widdershin Estates
(Carol and Frank) are totally committed to and accept the fact that
the future of the Alaskan Klee Kai breed requires us as responsible,
knowledgeable, and committed breeders to balance three equally
critical elements [health, conformation (adherence to the breed
standard), and temperament] when the considering any potential
breeding. WE look to ensure any breeding matches mates to
strengthen and improve good qualities in these three critical areas. |
 |
Widdershin Estates
(Carol and Frank) totally believes in and is almost rabid about health
checking our breeding stock. When the breed was initially founded,
the Breed Developer (Linda Spurlin) required eyes, heart, and knees be
documented as sound. Since then, other health issues have occurred
and the breed's health checks and health requirements have grown.
OUR bottom line philosophy is that rigorous health checks are part of
ensuring the future of the Alaskan Klee Kai Breed. |
 |
Widdershin Estates
(Carol and Frank) believe that the quality of home for our Alaskan Klee
Kai is the most important factor when reviewing and considering
applications from potential parents. WE always puts the future
care and well-being of our AKK as the most important placement factor. |
Policy (updated
& Effective 2010):
 |
Widdershin Estates
(Carol and Frank) totally believe that any and all AKK produced at
Widdershin Estates are our lifelong responsibility.
|
 |
All Widdershin Estates
placement contracts require that should the owner ever (regardless the reason)
need to end their relationship with their AKK. WE will accept the AKK
back into our family. WE will either arrange to pick up the AKK or
will pay the transportation cost to have the AKK returned to us. The
cost of getting the AKK back to our home will be deducted from any monies
that by placement agreement might be refunded to the owner. |
